FCEMS Honor Guard

The idea of establishing an Honor Guard for FCEMS
had been thought about for years. The biggest reason for interest in
the team was in the case of an unfortunate event involving an active
or retired FCEMS employee. In the Spring of 2001, the idea
became a reality and the team was put together very simply.
Applications were accepted from anyone interested, and thirteen (13)
employees formed the initial team. We spent several months on
getting ideas together for uniforms because all the existing
uniforms we could find were fire-based. We decided to design
our own uniform since we are strictly an EMS service. The
uniforms were basically hand made by
Seams Like
New, and we were very pleased with the end result.
Our first event was in July of 2001. We posted
colors for our own monthly meeting. Shortly after that 9-11-01
happened. We got call after call at that point for any number of
memorial services. We have also posted colors at such events as the
Emergency Medicine Today Conference held in Greensboro, NC; we have
participated in the Honor Guard Exhibition at the State Firemans
Assosciation Conference held in Charlotte, NC; and we have done
several funerals. The team has started doing parades and other
special events as well.
The team is honored to be in existence and an
available resource. There are very few EMS-based Honor Guard teams in
NC. We are not limiting ourselves to just doing funerals. We try to
honor most any request that we receive. Feel free to contact
Honor Guard Commander CPT
S.C. Moore if
the Honor Guard can be of any assistance to your organization.
